How we do things in our business is equally as important as what we do. Prior to developing the 8 Characteristics, the leadership team knew what characteristics a successful recruiter encompasses, but we lacked an in-depth knowledge on how recruiters utilize these specific attributes to produce the best results.

Two years later, after thoroughly examining our internal brand and gathering extensive input from every company leader, we identified eight qualities of paramount importance for our company. To create a common language, we interviewed our leadership team and managers about the top traits they seek in people. After narrowing the list to eight characteristics, we identified and defined the common behaviors associated with each.

Today, our hiring process looks very different. We are committed to identifying these characteristics in every associate when conducting internal interviews. We adhere to an 8Cs systematic approach that allows managers to rank candidates based on the conversation and demonstration of the 8 characteristics throughout the interview. A person’s expertise, skill-set and goals all must align with our positive work culture and go-getter environment.

It’s been exciting to see the program grow in a grass-roots way. Our peer-to-peer recognition program is now based on the 8 Characteristics, which has led to a lot of camaraderie among staff. I love watching people grow to understand that how we do things in our business is as important as what we do.
